If you would like to order sustainable timber from Burton’s Timber, please check our hardwood and softwood pages.
At Burton’s Timber we have an absolute commitment to sustainable practices within the forestry industry. All of our wood is only sourced through reputable suppliers, ensuring that we are not supplying you with timber that has been produced through unethical practices.
More than a simple set of guidelines, we have a firm environmental responsibility policy in place that dictates our behaviour on all issues throughout the business. This is one of the foundations of Burton’s Timber. This is a specific management structure in place at the highest level in accordance with the following rules:
Timber Trade Federation – we are committed to the TTF’s Environmental Code of Practice, which we apply to all of our timber procurement procedures.
CITES Legislation – this is the international organisation that deals with the illegal trade of endangered tree species. Burton’s Timber will not purchase any type of lumber prohibited by CITES and will always check for the relevant documents for the trade of protected species.
Legal Compliance – even though we purchase timber on a global basis, we always ensure that we have clear proof of the legal status of all of our suppliers. Burton’s Timber unreservedly condemns the practice of illegal logging.
Certification – there are now a number of international and domestically recognised labels that are applied to timber in order to prove it comes from sustainable and well-managed forests. We only purchase timber from the appropriately labelled suppliers.
Continual Improvement – Burton’s Timber will implement any necessary changes in the appropriate legislation in the timescales required for adherence.
Our concern for the environment stretches beyond our function as a timber supplier. Wherever possible we also promote the reduction of our carbon footprint within the business.
